A Massage for your Hangover

We all get them or we’ve all had one.  A hangover.  They are definitely not as fun as the drinking process that goes hand in hand with them.  You try to drink tons of water, take a couple aspirin, eat a greasy hamburger, an d so on…Now, you can add a massage to cure your hangover.  OOOOOH YES!!!!  Angie anderson in Minnesoat offers this type of massage.

Anderson’s business — located in the St. Peter Woolen Mill building in a room rented from Pulse Fitness — started offering “hangover massages” in March. The massage includes a reflexology treatment to stimulate the liver, a face and scalp massage to help with headaches, and Swedish massage incorporating aromatherapy to detoxify the body.

Anderson advertised the hangover massage for St. Patrick’s Day and continues to offer the service, noting that people drink all year long, not just on holidays.

“(Massage) helps remove any toxins you have,” Anderson said. “It does help a lot ”

Reflexology, which is a kind of massage that focuses on pressure points in hands and feet that correspond to different areas of the body, is said to help with liver and other bodily functions. Reflexology works well for people who are physically unable to undergo a full-body massage, such as burn victims, Anderson said.

“It can give you a full-body massage just working the feet,” she said.

Other specialty massages, such as her hot stone massage, offer a luxurious addition to a full-body massage. The massage includes heating special volcanic black stones, which hold the heat, that she uses to massage the skin. The heat penetrates muscles more deeply than the usual massage.

“It’s wonderful, especially in the winter time,” Anderson said. “There’s not very many people around here who do stones.”

Each session begins with clients filling out a questionnaire about their health history, in part to avoid any potential problems. Pregnant women, for example, shouldn’t experience the hot stone massage.

“Different massages won’t work for different people,” Anderson said. “It just kind of gives me a sense of why people are here.”

Anderson has been in her current location for a year but has been a massage therapist for more than seven years.

She received her training at the South Dakota School of Massage Therapy in Sioux Falls, after realizing she enjoyed giving massages.

When her daughter, Joy, was an infant, Anderson tried giving her infant massage to soothe her, and she discovered Joy really enjoyed it. She also gave neck and shoulder massages to people at work who needed them.

“I figure if there’s one thing you’ll do for free, you should probably get a job doing that,” Anderson said. ”

SWEET, SWEET words.

Thanks,
Tiffany
