Safety and Hygiene of Massage Therapy

Things to consider when getting a massage:

1. The location of the massage therapy office. Is it in a safe area and neighborhood?
2. Is the parking lot well lit and maintained?
3. Are the doorways hazardous? Are there exits easy to get to?
4. Are the walkways, floors and hallways slip resistant?
5. In the treatment room, does it appear that anything is tall and unstable?
6. Is the source for heat and air conditioning far enough away from where you (the client) might be disrobing or the dressing area?
7. Are the surfaces that the therapist and client comeinto contact with hypoallergenic?
8. Is there a client intake form available asking questions about allergies, past health history, etc?
9. Are the oils and other liquids used during massage labeled with a disposal date?
10. If the massage furniture, massage table, massage chair is looking less than stellar or not kept up, keep in mind that these items should be maintained once a year.

Thanks,
