Have you ever really thought of the way you walk effecting your posture? Your headaches? Backaches? I guess I had never really thought about how the arches in my feet would make my knees hurt. It makes sense, doesn’t it? I had a newly acquired friend let me know that he was doing a study on how people walk, their arches and developing orthopics to help aid in their walk. So, I volunteered for the job as I’m on my feet all the time with running, working and such.

I walked into the office and the doctor had me walk at first, bare foot, then with my flip flops, then with my running shoes (the 3 types of footwear I am in the most). I had been having some issues with pain in the arch to my heel area when I wake up in the mornings, so I let him know about that discomfort. But, other than that, I really had no reason for this visit other than to be a part of his study and teaching. I had a lot to learn. My left leg is longer than my right, so I have a twist in my foot when I walk. This twisting is more apparent when I’m not wearing any shoes, or when I’m in my flip flops. My stride became more “normal” when I was in my running shoes. Diagnosis for the aches in my feet: I need new shoes. I wasn’t made orthopics, which is a good thing, my feet aren’t super out of whack.

Point is: your feet are INCREDIBLY important. Do not ignore them! Go get them massaged, massage them yourself, have a buddy massage them, but MASSAGE THEM! We know the benefits that massage has on the body and they are applied to your feet, too. Think about how much people are on their feet. They’re your base, your foundation….Show your feet some love and walk them right into a massage therapists office.

Color Therapy is a type of Alternative medicine and therapy. Color Therapy, also known as chromotherapy intertwines with chakras, which are also associated with primary elements (Earth, Wind, Fire and Air). It’s amazing how colors effect our emotions making us happy, sad, they inspire, make us nervous and can even make us angry. As an example, when I was doing outside sales for a company, I was told not to wear the color red because people have the tendency to find it threatening and can turn people off, which is something you do not want to do when making a sales call, right?

Since colors effect a lot about the way we work, it makes sense that eating and drinking foods and drinks of a certain color would have an effect on our moods. This is because it benefits balancing energy. Our physical and energetic bodies are believed to receive and store solar light which mantains an internal balance. As light is released from our cells in our body, an imbalance is “formed” with these colors, manifesting itself as an illness. Kind of sounds strange, but makes a lot of sense, don’t you think?

Since color therapy is associated with chakras and each chakra has a color associated with it, along with an emotion, I thought I’d share:

Red: Vitality, Courage, and self -confidence (different than what my sales class said, hugh?)

Orange: Happiness and resourcefulness

Yellow: Clarity and wisdom

Green: Love, self control and wisdom

Blue: Health, decisevness and knowledge

Indago: Understanding and intuition

Violet: Beauty and Inspiration ( and is this fall’s big fashion color!)

Eating foods of certain colors, drinking beverages of certain colors, wearing a cetain color jewel, burning colored candels and hanging colorful prisms can effect our moods and emotions. There are many people who are trying this new form of therapy and I can’t see why if you’re unhappy, you wouldn’t wear orange!

Thanks,

What is lypossage? It is a new, all natural body contouring treatment that delievers a decent amount of results. Lypossage helps with figure imbalances such as cellulite bulges on the thigs or abdomen. The process of lypossage helps cleanse the body of stagnant lymphatic fluids that can create lumps and buldges. The deeper lypossssage strokes break up those adhesions under the skin that can contribute to the dimpled, uneve appearance of cellulite. Lyposssage can apparently also tone the muscles by lifting and firming sagging tissues.

Unlike a lot of cellulite reducing machines, or treatments, lypossage is non invasive! It’s a natural way to treat the body and cleanse the body of toxins and retained fluids. Again, this in non-invasive, so it’s not as gard on the body as asurgical procedure, such as liposuction. They say that if you do choose to go the route of liposuction, that lypossage is very beneficail and is a great up keep before and after the liposuction procedure.

Now, not everyone can perform the lypossage. People who do this are actually specially trained massage therapists specific to lypossage. The course of treatments is noramally a series of 18 session in a bout a 6 week period. Most results aren’;t seen right away, but sometimes it takes eight to ten sessions before the results are ble to be seen.

Lypossage is a costly endeavor. The pricing varies per massage therapist and area you want treated, but of my research I’ve found that the cost is just under $2000. This, compared to the few thousadns of dollars that liposuction costs is definitely less expesive, not as invasive, there’s no down time from surgery, little if any bruising and is all natural!

If you’ve lost some weight and you have those couple tought to get rid of spots and you’re looking at options to help you get rid of them, I would go with lyposssage. it may take a little bit longer to get the results, but it’s a way to relax (when getting the procedure), it doesn’t involve scalpels and you can get the same results.

thanks,

The Watsu massage is another unique form of massaging the body, a process that leads to
thorough relaxation of the body and also the mind. The Watsu massage is a distinct
amalgam of the shiatsu massage and water therapy. The element of aqua plays a very
critical role in the effortless execution of the Watsu massage. The person opting for
a Watsu massage would be encouraged to lie and center on deep breathing while
his/her body is massaged with the help of warm water. This activity has also
earned a name in water breath dance. Many connotations involved in
the Watsu Massage can be said to be derivatives of the Shiatsu form as the main
focal point is on the liberation of blockages from he energy points that are positioned
in the human body. Acupressure is another science whose traces can be found during
a Watsu massage as a certain amount of pressure is applied on the fingertips so that
the life energy starts flowing sans interruptions and the body becomes light.

In the real sense, the Watsu massage is indeed one of the most unique massaging techniques to have been discovered. The massage is performed completely underwater and can also be called a form of the aqua massage. Water is used very effortlessly in massaging the body of the person and the up thrust in it works on the body in all the effective ways. It has been observed by massage therapists that the Watsu massage, the shiatsu massage and acupressure have a lot of commonalities but still are unique in their own ways. The stress laid by masseuses during the Watsu massage is on relaxation of all the major muscles in the body. The venue for the Watsu massage is mostly a therapeutic pool where the therapist gently stretches the body of the concerned person who gets the massage done. The cradle position is the end fixation in which the body gets placed as this position has been credited as one of the most rejuvenating poses. For the uninitiated, the cradle position is that in which a mother clutches her baby. Each and every muscle group in the body is subjected to pressure in isolation so that it can be individually worked on.

It is courtesy the presence of water that the therapist gets the freedom to move swiftly through all the stretches and to massage the upper part of the body through acupressure. Through the whole process, the spine is given special care. This is done as when the body gets immersed in water, it starts floating and goes in sync with the anti-gravitational force that is produced by water. Warm water is used so that muscles relax easily as cold water makes the body stiff and does not provide any range of relaxation. Aqua-phobia is a concern that the Watsu massage addresses with panache apart from inducing emotions such as calmness, relaxation, love and safety.

Thank you!

The majority of massage therapy styles in the US stem from variations of the Swedish massage created by Per Henrik Ling, a Swedish gymnast in the 19th century. The typical Swedish massage involves slow and rhythmic strokes that glide over the skin. The strokes are directed towards the heart such as from foot to the thigh, lower back to chest, and hands to shoulder. Along with the rhythmic motions, there is, generally, a good deal of kneading and rolling of muscle groups creating a constant touch and friction with the skin. Some therapists include a methodic drumming, or deep fast paced rubbing, against the broad areas of the back with their hands to help circulate blood flow through the muscles and help release tension from small pockets of tight often un-relaxed muscles. The use of oils and lotions are in order to prevent any undue discomfort to the skin or to reduce any form of skin irritation.

Deep-tissue massage use the Swedish Techniques described but with more emphasis on pressure and kneading of select muscle groups to further relax muscles and stimulate blood flow. Deep-tissue massage is ideal for athletes or consumers suffering from muscle related injury or those having physical rehabilitation. The deep-tissue massage is ideal and helping people recover from injury.

Shiatsu (finger-pressure) massage was derived from Japan having roots in early Chinese medicine. It is akin to acupuncture where the pressure points on the body can control and relax a person suffering from muscular injury or muscle hyper-tension. Thai massage has deeper religious overtones, primarily developed by Buddhist monks in the Laos/Siam region. Thai massages involve pressing and stretching along the body’s “meridians” or invisible energy channels. Acupressure is described as Acupuncture but without the needles. Unlike Shiatsu technique, which includes a variety of kneading and muscle jostling, Acupressure’s focus is on a strict regimen of pressure-point focus, said to even cure people of certain diseases.

Massage therapy has indeed been transformed by culture and time periods. One thing that has not changed in the last 4000 years of massages, is that it has not stopped feeling great.

We clean our homes, our cars, our skin, but we have a tendency, to neglect our internal body and our minds. Never before, in our known and recorded history, have we been so consistently exposed to biological, chemical, heavy metal, electrical, emotional, psychological, and stressors. In addition, the nutritional quality of our food produced has significantly diminished in over the past 40 years. The synergistic effect of stress, toxicity, and nutritional depletion can be devastating.
Mother Nature protects us from every day’s exposure to toxins. When toxic substances however start to accumulate the internal detoxification system becomes overloaded. Algae or seaweed like Rockweed, Fucus or Kelp can help to maintain the balance.

Advice: until we change the environmental laws, the best solution is detoxification. Detoxification needed to maintain life and health. For a full detoxification to be carried out body, mind & spirit should be involved. A healthy body can cure a sick mind and a healthy mind cure a sick body.

Your lifestyle and dietary choices can make an enormous difference to your lifespan and to your quality of life in later years. A good diet will help to keep healthy. All it takes is a little work in the ‘here and now’ to keep you in a good shape for later. Toxins play an important part in ageing. A toxin is defined as any compound that has a detrimental effect on cell function, cellular growth, tissue regeneration or structure. The more toxins you ingest, the faster you age. We all know that our Modern environment is toxic and the foods we eat, even the air we breathe and the water we drink is polluted with chemicals most of them foreign to our body. In our modern world managed to produce more than 2,000,000 synthetic substances. Many of them after use discarded into our environment. Each year more than 20,000 substances added that are proven to be toxic.

Our body is designed to utilize natural substances, which include foods, herbs and phyto-chemicals. Increasingly however we ingest new (man-made) chemicals, in addition use more drugs of all kinds. Not only more but many new man made chemicals are stronger. Most of us cannot escape to a safe haven, free from toxins and pollutants. We have to eat contaminated food, breathe the air which is polluted, drink the water that is available even if chlorinated or contaminated. Clean water is very important. If you give your body enough pure water and fiber it will detox much easier and faster. Butonly clean water.

Neutralisation/transforming toxins:
The sea with their living organisms is the world’s best and most important cleaner.Seaweed and micro-organisms break down and transform most of these harmful substances. Ongoing studies showed that marine seaweeds processed toxins to a much less harmful form, and in a way that did not appear to harm the seaweed itself. The biochemistry involved, they say, is similar to that found in many land organisms, but more powerful and effective . The central role of the Sea/Ocean reconfirmed, there is no real surprising here.

Cleaning and revitalising, the Sea/Ocean doing is doing it for us. What is important is that it is the first larger study to show the effectiveness of seaweed with respect to detoxifying synthetic substances as well?

Organic and heavy metals were already well documented. There has been a widespread use of algae (algin, alginic acid) for the removal of harmful substances from men’s body including radioactive material.

Seaweed or algae like kelp and fucus as detoxifiers.

Seaweed contains large quantities of minerals, including calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, iodine and sodium. It also contains acids that can draw toxins through the pores of the skin.

Therapeutic seaweed is available either in dried or powdered form from chemists and drug stores. Steep it in the bathwater in a muslin bag or an infusion ball. Alternatively, you can also buy a seaweed gel that you apply all over your body before a bath. It’s much cheaper than the seaweed wraps you are offered in fancy spas but often just as effective!

Thanks,

Stayinng positive or having apositive attitude during these times can be a difficuult thing to do. I know sometimes I have a hard time getting up on the right side of the bed. That’s when you have to close your eyes, take a deep breath and think positive. Here’s a little poem I found written by man named, Leo Babauta. His positive thinking helped him lose 50 pounds, get rid of his debt and quit smoking. Thinking positive will help you relieve your stress, by not getting so stressed and can help you reach your goals easier.

Realize it’s possible, instead of telling yourself why you can’t.
Become aware of your self-talk.
Squash negative thoughts like a bug.
Replace them with positive thoughts.
Love what you have already.
Be grateful for your life, your gifts, and other people.
Every day.
Focus on what you have, not on what you haven’t.
Don’t compare yourself to others.
But be inspired by them.
Accept criticism with grace.
But ignore the naysayers.
See bad things as a blessing in disguise.
See failure as a stepping stone to success.
Surround yourself by those who are positive.
Complain less, smile more.
Image that you’re already positive.
Then become that person in your next act.
Focus on this habit first, and you’ll have a much easier time with any other.

‘A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.’ ~Herm Albright

How true is that statement? Going at life with a glass half full attitudemay not solve all your problems, but it will definitely make your problems seem smaller. What can you do to start your day off on a positive note? Smile more, live like it’s your last day, dance like ther’s no one watching…you know that saying!

Thanks,

As a skin cancer patient of two times, I’m constantly applying sunscreen, wearing a hat and covering my body with clothing, even when it’s 1000 degrees outside. Within the last year, I have had basal cell carcinoma found on my face and surgically removed. I kinda beat myself up about it, curious as to what I could’ve done to have been more preventative. I guess growing up on the ocean, being an ocean rescuer and partaking in all sorts of outdoor activites probably didn’t help my case at all. During these summer days, I make sure not to go outside without wearing a 50 spf and a hat. So, to help those of you, who are young, who plan on hitting the beach for your summer vacation, or for those of you who run, bike and swim outside, I figured I’d give you some tips to help you prevent getting any skin cancer.

1. You should try to avoid being in any real harsh direct sunlight, normally between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm.
2. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes, wide rimmed hats to protect your face and shirts and such to protect everything else.
3. Apply a good amount of sunscreen. I use 50 spf, but 30 is a good spf to start with. Apply it every two hours or so. If you’re doing something that makes you sweat, apply it more often.
4. Try to avoid getting adouble dose of UV rays i.e., avoid places where these rays are reflected off water, snow and sand.

I know that all of this sounds like a lot of precautions and some sound impossible. Just do one or tow of these when your exposed to the sun and you should be just fine. Another line of defense for skin cancer is your massage therapist. They see most of your body during a massage session, so it kind of makes sense that they could help you in detection. Don’t depend on them to point out suspicious pots on your body, because A. it’s not their job and B. they’re not educated in this area of expertise, but listne to them if they do see something that is new, larger, discolored, etc.

Other than that, have fun in the sun! COVER UP!

Thanks,

Our lives are so super busy these days, with constant office meetings, kids soccer practices, spring breaks, school work, deadlines…aaaaaaaaaaahhh!!! I know you know what I’m talking baout. Anyhow, we still need to take time to relax, even if it’s for short time. I found a blog that I wanted to share with you that talks about a couple of discs done to help you with meditating through a simple CD.

Meditiation in a New York Minute
Mark Thornton

With his chipper Australian accent, meditation instructor Mark Thornton may not be the voice you instantly associate with New York minutes, but then again, New York is an international city, and stress and anxiety are universal. More importantly, Thornton possesses a laser-precise grasp of modern spiritual dysfunction. Understanding that the average person on the go may not be able to readily carve out an hour a day to practice meditation, Thornton has devised numerous meditation exercises that can be done on the run, making Meditation in a New York Minute more than live up to its claim.

The first disc introduces Thornton’s strategies for overcoming the difficulties of meditation practice. “Meditating for the first time,” Thornton notes, “is like sticking your head in a river full of thoughts.” It’s okay to be distracted, but “what you don’t want to do is to start to talk to yourself about the distraction.” Thornton encourages you to bear that in mind, and when you notice you’ve gone off-track just “Be aware of it and return to your practice.” He encourages us to amass a whole coterie of techniques rather than relying on just one method, and to try and meditate for longer periods, noting: “It’s a mathematical connection.” If we learn to be able to return to our practice without judgment or self-criticism, over and over again, our ability to meditate cannot help but increase.

The exercises on disc two include “Body Awareness,” the “Calm Commute,” “White Light,” “Total Awareness at the Gym,” “Magnifying Heart Energy,” “Magnifying Wisdom,” and learning to “See the Good in All People” (“I connect to the God within you.”) Mark Thornton encourages us not only to try and visualize the feeling of what all this would be like, but to accomplish this while remembering to keep breathing from the belly. “Visualization is instant and automatic. It’s lightning fast, so you don’t need to spend 20 minutes doing this.” With Thornton’s help, the basic tenets of meditation and visualization will be at your disposal throughout the day, accessible in a matter of seconds. Rome — or New York — wasn’t built in a minute, but those ancestors of ours didn’t have to deal with daily media bombardment and ever-escalating technological dependence. Whatever your level of distraction, Meditation in a New York Minute will bring you back to a level of timeless awareness, ! where you won’t have to deal with it either, until that minute is up and you’re ready to dive back into the fray.

So, maybe this helps you try to fit in a little bit of relaxation during your busy day!
